NEWS ABOUT THE PROJECT

SustainEdu: Advancing Sustainable Development in Higher Education – Parallel Workshops on SDG 3 and SDG 8

On January 29–30, 2025, as part of the project “SustainEdu: Advancing Sustainable Development in Higher Education”, two parallel workshops will be held. One of the workshops, titled SDG 3: Good Health and Well-being, will be led by Tomasz Bojar Fijałkowski, Vice-Rector for Science and Quality of Education at Powiślański University, Poland. The other workshop, focused on SDG 8: Decent Work and Economic Growth, will be led by Katarzyna Strzała-Osuch, Vice-Rector for Development and Cooperation at Powiślański University, Poland. The project partners include Powiślański University (Poland), Newton University (Czech Republic), and the European University of Tirana (Albania). Each workshop will include five staff members from AAB College and five staff members from the European University of Tirana.

The project is co-financed by the governments of Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia through grants from the Visegrad Fund. The mission of the fund is to advance ideas for sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.

SustainEdu: Advancing Sustainable Development in Higher Education – Parallel Workshops on SDG 4 and SDG 5

A two-day training (April 23–24) at the European University of Tirana (UET) focused on improving academic quality and promoting gender equality in education and employment.

The training is part of the project “EduSDG: Higher Education for Sustainable Development in Kosovo and Albania”, involving UET, AAB College (Kosovo), Powiślański University (Poland), and Newton University (Czech Republic). Trainers from Newton University discussed SDG 4 (quality education) and SDG 5 (gender equality).

On day one, partners reviewed gender equality in their countries, efforts to increase women’s inclusion in leadership, and other factors supporting societal development. Day two focused on SDG 4, examining education systems, organization, and financing, and outlining steps to raise standards and ensure inclusive, high-quality education.

The project “SustainEdu: Advancing Sustainable Development in Higher Education” is co-financed by the governments of Czechia, Hungary, Poland, and Slovakia through Visegrad Grants from the International Visegrad Fund, which promotes sustainable regional cooperation in Central Europe.

The initiative aims to strengthen the capacity of academic staff in Western Balkans higher education institutions through collaboration with Central European partners, helping to integrate SDGs into teaching, research, and innovation activities.

Online Webinar on SDG 17 Strengthens Regional Academic Partnerships

On 22 May 2025, an online webinar on SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals brought together 47 academic staff from Kosovo, Albania, and partner institutions in Central Europe to consolidate knowledge from previous SDG workshops on SDGs 3, 4, 5, and 8. The session highlighted the importance of collaboration in achieving sustainable development and provided a platform to share best practices, reflect on lessons learned, and explore opportunities for joint initiatives in teaching, research, and institutional projects.

This webinar directly contributes to the project objective of strengthening regional partnerships and institutional capacity to address sustainability challenges through coordinated action, ensuring that the momentum built during previous workshops continues beyond the project’s lifetime.
